ARCA Chairmanship handed over on 'Solid Footing' Steve Sadley ( Chief Executive )

The end of a two year term of office as ARCA Chairman always provides the opportunity for the outgoing Chairman to sum up his two years at the helm and Steve has many reasons to be satisfied with his achievements during his term in office. One of the biggest upheavals within ARCA in recent years took place very shortly after Steve took the Chairmanship. That was Terry Jago standing down as Chief Executive and taking on the part time role of Director of Training with myself being appointed as Chief Executive of the association. I know there were concerns from within the membership, and rightly so, Terry had steered ARCA very successfully for many years. I hope I have demonstrated over the last 22 months that the implementation of the Governing Councils strategy and the management of the Association on a day to day basis is equally as safe in my hands. With the help and assistance of the dedicated team at ARCA I intend that it will remain so.

One of the main themes of Steve’s Chairmanship has been for ARCA to become more inclusive. Steve felt that ARCA had become a little insular recently. As a result ARCA have actively forged bonds between likeminded and associated organisations. ARCA now have scheduled meetings with the Asbestos Control and Abatement Division (ACAD) of the Thermal Insulation Contractors Association (TICA) to discuss industry Chairmanship handed over on ‘solid footing’ As ever the autumn edition of ARCA News is published to coincide with the Association’s Annual General Meeting to be held on 2nd October. issues, ARCA are fully represented at the HSE Asbestos Liasion Group (ALG) Meetings, ARCA have a representative on the Executive Committee of the United Kingdom Asbestos Training Association (UKATA), have established links with the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) and are working with The British Occupational Hygiene Service (BOHS) to provide atac individual surveyor membership for ABICS registered surveyors amongst others.

It is my opinion that Steve Watts’ Chairmanship has been one of consolidation of the work that ARCA does, and this has been implemented very successfully over the term of Steve’s Chairmanship, despite the harsh economic climate that has prevailed for the past 12 months or so. I would like to thank Steve for his time as Chairman, during which it was a pleasure to work with him, and also thank him for his part in ensuring that the association remains on a solid footing as the Chairmanship is handed over to Mark Roberts for the next two years. I look forward to working with Mark to continue to deliver the level of service that ARCA members expect from the Association.
